Bruce Vern Wilcox, of Saint George died on [Month ddth] from [cause of death].
Bruce was born in Monrovia, California, the first-born child of Keith V. and Viola M. Wilcox. He was raised in the small town of San Dimas, California. He attended school at Fred Eckstrand, Arma J. Shull, Gladstone, San Dimas Elementary, Ramona Intermediate, and Bonita High School (1971). His best subjects were mathematics and geometry.
He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the states of Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas, Mexico from January 1973 to January 1975 under the direction of Presidents J. Marlan Walker and Limhi Ontiveros.
Bruce graduated with an A.A. degree at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California in June of 1976. He then transferred to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he received a Bachelors degree in Accounting in April 1978.
Bruce worked as a staff accountant for CPA firms in La Jolla and West Covina and received a CPA license in 1982. However, Bruce found that his real passion was in the area of computer software development, having purchased an Apple II personal computer in 1979. In November 1982, he joined Computer Sciences Corporation, TACS division, as a Tax Analyst and Programmer where he worked until 1994. He went on to work as a tax software developer at Intuit TurboTax in San Diego from 1994 to 2012. In 2006, he received a Masters degree in Software Engineering from National University in San Diego. Bruce excelled at writing code to do complex tax calculations at Intuit.
During the course of his life Bruce lived in San Dimas, San Diego (Claremont), West Covina, La Verne, Pomona, Glendale, Coto de Caza, Oceanside, La Jolla, San Diego (Mira Mesa), Escondido, Wichita (KS), and Saint George.
Bruce was introverted by nature. However, he served well as a teacher in Sunday School and other settings. He was known for his diligent lesson preparations and use of personally-purchased video projectors to help convey lesson content.
Bruce experienced a number of health challenges during his life including open-heart surgery at age 48 and ischemic stroke at age 62. And, while he experienced failures and setbacks, including divorce and job loss, he never gave up. He worked and served faithfully throughout his life.
A father of two, Bruce is survived by his daughter, Christine Wilcox Matheson (Marc) of Orem, Utah and son, Brian D. Wilcox (Nadia), also of Orem. Bruce’s grandchildren include Malaki, Mariah, Micah, and Maddex Wilcox and Makenna and Hayley Matheson. His is also survived by his brother, David Wilcox (Azusa, CA) and his sister, Susan Wilcox Davis (Lucerne Valley, CA).
